Attention grade 12 students thinking of going into the skilled trades. Conestoga College has provided us with some information about the W. Garfield Weston Foundation’s family scholarship. Eligible recipients can receive up to $4,000.00 through the scholarship. Information is posted on the Financing Scholarships, Awards, and Bursaries bulletin board outside of Student Services.
Attention Grade 12 students interested in applying for the Horatio Alger Canadian Scholarship Program. Up to $10,000.00 each will be awarded to 170 students across Canada. Students applying to university can view some details on the Scholarships, Awards, and Bursaries bulleting board outside of Student Services. Scholarship applications are due to the Program October 25, 2019.
Attention grade 12 students wishing to apply for the Loran Scholarship. This scholarship is renewable for up to four years with a total value of $100,000.00. Full-time Canadian students with a cumulative average of 85% can be nominated by St. John’s College to apply for the scholarship. Students can also apply without a nomination. For the St. John’s College Loran Scholarship Nomination Application please come to Student Services to obtain this blue form from the hanging folder on the wall in the seating area. Nomination Applications are due to Student Services by Friday, October 4, 2019.
This is an announcement that the SJC Swim team is about to get under way. There will be a signup sheet outside of room 277, please take a form and put your name on the list. Practices will be at 7 am on Mondays and after school on Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Gretzky center pool. Listen for more announcements in the coming weeks or see Mr. Perras. Our first meet is in November.
Senior students, have you ever thought about helping those who have been devastated by a natural disaster? If you have this passion, then this year’s mission trip might be for you. The school board has been offering mission trips for over 20 years. The mission trip is a unique experience that allows you to put your faith into action. You will get the chance to work with other students from our school board for one week. This opportunity to live your faith by helping others is open to all senior students. The tentative location for this year’s mission trip is southern Louisiana to help in the relief of damage caused by over a decade of hurricanes and flash flooding. If you are interested, please pick up an application form from Mrs. Padmore in the attendance office or from Mrs. Malecki in Room 203. Sports are very limited, so apply as soon as possible. Application are due back by October 1st at the latest.
Attention students traveling to France & Italy with the Modern Languages Department during the March Break. Your second payment is due on September 30th. You can bring your cheque to Madame or you can make the payment via e-transfer. If you have not yet submitted your passport information, it is also required at this time. All participants are asked to see Madame this week regarding this payment.
Attention curlers, anyone interested in trying out for the boys or girls curling team, come see Mr. Todd in Room 202 at 8:30 a.m. or on your lunch. New curlers are welcome. Mr. Todd doesn’t have junior lunch, but feel free to come into 202 during your lunch and Mr. Todd will take the time for you.
Attention math people, students interested in writing a Fall Math Contest should come see Mr. Todd in Room 202 at 8:30 a.m. or at you lunch. Mr. Todd will give you the details on entering the new math contest when you come see him.
The SJC Gazette mews team will be meeting again this week tomorrow-Friday at 3 p.m. in Portable 6. Look to your Outlook e-mail for a re-cap of last week’s story and planning meeting.
