Course Description
Exploring Technologies, Grade 9, Open (TIJ1O1)
This course enables students to further explore and develop technological knowledge and skills introduced in the elementary science and technology program. Students will be given the opportunity to design and create products and/or provide services related to the various technological areas or industries, working with a variety of tools, equipment, and software commonly used in industry. Students will develop an awareness of environmental and societal issues, and will begin to explore secondary and postsecondary education and training pathways leading to careers in technology-related fields.
In this course students will:
- describe problem-solving processes and techniques for solving various kinds of problems in different technological areas
- use correct terminology to identify and describe various processes, tools, and equipment used in creating products or delivering services
- use appropriate tools, materials, equipment, drill press, test meter, computer, software, printer, video camera, thermometer, grill, sewing machine, autoclave, curling iron) to create products or deliver services.
- demonstrate the ability to use, maintain, and store tools and equipment properly and with care
- follow proper procedures for the safe storage and disposal of materials and waste products
- develop and/or select pieces of work and other materials that provide evidence of their skills and achievements in technology, for inclusion in a portfolio
