Are you travelling to New York City on the art trip?  Then this message is for you.  There will be a mandatory meeting tomorrow-Thursday, May 3rd at 6:30 p.m. in the upper staffroom for students, parents and/or guardians.  We will be going over the final details of the trip.  The count down to the trip has begun.

Congratulations to the St. John’s Students whose artwork was picked for the Board Art Show.  The show of work from both Elementary and Secondary students will take place at the Gretzky Sports Centre in the lobby from Wednesday, May 2nd to Friday, May 4th.  Would the following students whom we have not got in contact with, please pick up a Show notice from Mrs. DiStefano:  Mekayla W, Emily T, Dionna E, Elliot E, Jessalyn F, Jessica D, Kyla C, Brady M, Caitlin M, Guneet D, Tristan B, Ben C and Daniella K.

Were you in Photography, Art or Media Arts last semester?  You may be interested in submitting Photography, video or poster designs to the Crosscuts Festival.  See Mrs. DiStefano for competition information and entry forms.  Entries are due by May 17th, so don’t hesitate, come to see Mrs. DiStefano today.

All Book Club members, please meet in the library for an important meeting today at lunch.

Students travelling to the Skills competition next week must attend a meeting tomorrow-Thursday, May 3rd at the beginning of period 3 (11:45 am) in room 277.  Again, all students attending the Skills competition next week must attend a mandatory meeting tomorrow-Thursday, May 3rd at the beginning of period 3 (11:45 am) in room 277.

Leadership and Job Skills want to remind everyone that tomorrow, Thursday, May 3rd is the last day to submit your class photos through email for the homeroom photo challenge.  Be as creative and funny as possible.  The winning class will be announced on Monday.  They will receive a prize, have their photo shared on SJC’s social media, and also put in the yearbook.  We encourage all classes to participate.  Good luck.

There will be a Track & Field practice today after school.  Meet by the gym doors.  Pick up your permission form if you are not in Phys Ed this semester.  They are posted by the gym doors.  Hand in your signed form to Mrs. Elliott.  SJC school meet is this Thursday.

Are you interested in fishing?  Ever dream of competing in a fishing tournament against your peers?  Feel like spending the day jigging for bass, or ripping lips with a crankbait?  Well you’re in luck.  If a fishing tournament interests you, come out to a brief meeting at the beginning of junior and senior lunch today, in room 267.  Look forward to seeing you there.

Attention all those helping with Prom, please come to an important meeting at the beginning of Senior Lunch today.

The Canadian Association of Retired Persons is looking for 6-8 Volunteers for Wednesday, May 9th from 9-4 at the Civic Centre arena.  Volunteers will be filling duties such as helping set up vendor displays, supervising reception services and maintaining supplies and services to exhibitors and attendees.  If you are interested in signing up please contact Student Services.

If you are pursuing a career in medicine or health care and live in Brant County or Brantford ask your guidance counselor or Ms. Koolen about The Endowment Fund of the Kiwanis Club of Grand River.  You may qualify for one of our bursaries.  Deadline to apply is May 31st.

The Varsity boys’ soccer team continued their undefeated season with a 3-1 victory over the Assumption Lions.  Scoring for the Eagles were Will R., Chris P. and Giovanni A.  The Eagles also got strong efforts in the midfield from Andrew N. and defense from Corrado Pi.  The Eagles take on PJ at 4 p.m. at Kiwanis field.  Hope to see you there.

Attention all girls interested in trying out for the varsity girls fast-pitch team.  There will be a meeting today during both lunches in room 147 to discuss the upcoming season.  Please see Mrs. Malecki if you cannot attend.

Attention all Grade 11 & 12 students.  On June 8th, 9th and 10th Harmony Square will be celebrating a weekend long festival in honor of Harmony Squares 10th anniversary.  Harmony Square is also very excited to announce that on June 9th they will be revealing their newest Mascot to the community.  This is where YOU have an opportunity to play a role within your community and make a difference.  Harmony Square is in search of a mature, responsible, senior student to take responsibility over the Harmony Square Mascot.  This would include; coming out to community events and being the Mascot, taking photos and ensuring the safe keeping of the Mascot during the event.  If you are interested in applying to be the newest Harmony Square Mascot, please submit a completed application and resume to HarmonySquare@brantford.ca no later than April 27th, 2018.  Applications can be found at HarmonySquare.ca.1 

SHAC will be meeting today during lunch.

Our Spring Musical FAME is fast approaching.  A reminder that tickers are now available in the Main Office. 

Attention Graduates, applications for the James Hillier Foundation Scholarship are now available at Student Services.  To qualify for this award, candidates must be nominated by their school, have an average of at least 90 percent, including two science courses and be pursuing a career in the scientific field.  If you are interested, please pick up an application form from Student Services.  Completed forms are due by tomorrow-Thursday, April 26th. 

Grad events are quickly moving along.  All photos and fee collections are now complete.  Students who missed the photos and have not paid their fees have now received two letters from the school.  If these students do not contact the school before April 26, 2018 we will assume they do not wish to participate in the graduation ceremony.  With approximately 275 students participating in graduation, there will only be three guest passes per grad for the ceremony at the Sanderson Centre on June 28, 2018.  Due to the large graduating class we do not anticipate any extra guest passes.  Students are encouraged to ensure they have checked on the required diploma requirements for graduation:  30 credits, 40 hours of community service hours and fulfilled the literacy requirement.  Please note:  Grad Prom is Friday, May 25, 2018 at the Best Western Brant Park Inn between 5:30 and 10:00 p.m.  Tickets are $50.00 and will be sold April 30th to May 4, 2018.  Please see the April Grad Newsletter on St. John’s College website.  If you have any questions please contact Mrs. Camilleri.
