Attention Grade 12 students who consider themselves as leaders, achievers and innovators. If you have limitless drive, ambition and determination you may be one of five lucky winners of the STEAM Horizon Awards. You can apply for a $25,000.00 prize towards your post-secondary education. Information about the prize program and how to apply can be found at steamhorizonawards.ca. The deadline for applications in January 16, 2019.
Attention St. John’s College potential graduates for 2019. At this point all students have completed a graduation application and have met with their guidance counselor to review credits, literacy and community volunteer hour requirements for graduation. Please note there are several potential graduates who have not completed their 40 hours of community service which is a diploma requirement. Volunteer community hours must be submitted by March 22, 2019. Payment for grad fees has been posted on St. John’s College school cash on line. Fees are $80.00 and are due by December 7, 2018. The fees cover ceremony costs and a $25.00 photo sitting fee. Once fees are paid a grad photo package , which includes a scheduled date and time for each student’s photo, will be mailed to the student’s home address. Graduation photos will begin January 8th and finish January 23rd, 2019 from 8:00am to 4:00pm daily in room 274. If any students are interested in putting their name forward as a Valedictorian candidate the due date for submission is February 8, 2019. All graduation information is online at www.sjconline.ca. The last tryout for girl’s hockey team is tomorrow-Wednesday at 3:30 at the Gretzky Center.
All students who did not make it to the academic awards banquet, your awards are ready for pick up in the Principals Office. Please pick them up before school, after school or during your lunch time.

Students identifying as LGBTQ and all allies are invited to a special meeting today-Monday, November 12th in the Divine Mercy room with Sara, the social worker and vice principal Pimentel. The purpose of this meeting is to socialize and discuss what your hopes are for an LGBTQ support group. Please come with lots of feedback and ideas. We look forward to seeing you there.

All girls interested in trying out for the junior girls’ volleyball team are to grab a permission form from the envelope and sign the list posted outside the gym doors. Tryouts start early next week. Days and times will be posted. Permission forms must be completed and handed in to tryout. See Mrs. Boyd or Mr. Beaudin if you have any questions
Attention all junior boys football players, please clean out lockers this week and wash all equipment. Equipment return day will take place on Tuesday, November 13th and Wednesday, November 14th on your lunch.
Attention all senior boys football players, all our equipment needs to be returned to Mr. O’Sullivan by today-Friday, November 9th and lockers should be cleaned out by today as well.
This is a reminder for Grade 12 students planning to apply to Queen’s University. If you wish to apply to be a nominated applicant to the Queen’s University Chancellor’s Scholarship, which is a Major Admission Award, please pick up and complete a preliminary questionnaire in Student Services. To qualify, students must demonstrate superior academic ability, creative, and original thinking. Questionnaires are due back to Student Services by Tuesday, November 13th, 2018.

Girls Hockey tryouts begin tomorrow-Tuesday, November 6th and Wednesday, November 7th at 3:30 at the Gretzky Centre. Signups are located by the gym doors. You must pick up a permission form located beside the signup list prior to going on the ice. Return the form to Mrs. Elliott before tryouts or give it to Ms. McDade on Tuesday prior to going on the ice.

Winter Team Sports News. Anyone interested in trying out for the following teams, please sign up and pick up permission forms at the gym doors. Junior Boys Volleyball tryouts are next week at 8 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, and 3:15 on Friday. Senior Boys Basketball tryouts are next week at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Senior Girls Volleyball tryouts are next week at 5 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. All students must have a permission signed for tryouts.
Attention students who have received an invitation to the Academic Award Ceremony that will take place at the school on the evening of Wednesday, November 7th, 2018. It is imperative that you send in your RSVP. Please go to SJC online and follow the links provided to indicate whether or not you will be attending. Please RSVP by the November 1st deadline. Do you think brooms are only for flying around on at Halloween? Do you want to throw stones and not worry about glass houses? Then come and try out for the St. John’s curling team. Come see Mr. Todd as soon as possible in room 202. Mr. Todd only has junior lunch, but seniors are welcome to come into his class during their lunch to talk. Don’t even knock. Or just sign up on the door and tryout times will be posted when they are known. What do you need? A pair of perfectly clean shoes. Come see Mr. Todd for details.
